Start and Finish line on 5th Street SW next to the Cyclists Lunch – Playground area of Blackburn Park, Salmon Arm BC
This is a “knock your socks off” challenging route! Local riders chose this route to highlight the diverse beauty of the Shuswap-North Okanagan’s many quiet back roads. 1145 M of climbing and descending occur over the 100K route with four identified climbs totalling over 15K. The route will test your legs but you’ll be rewarded with five breezy, scenic descents totalling 26K. Along the way look up to Mt. Ida, the Enderby Cliffs and the Larch Hills. On the final descent into Salmon Arm watch for views of Shuswap Lake.
Information for first time 100K Route Cyclists:
If you arrive at the junction of Schubert Road and Knob Hill Road (45.5K from the Blackburn Park start) after 12 Noon and want to arrive back at Blackburn Park in time for Lunch and the Cyclists Celebration and draw prizes, please consider returning via Deep Creek Road (the 75K route). It’s about 28K back to Blackburn Park via Deep Creek Road. The hills on Deep Creek Road are short and not very steep. You will make it back in time for Lunch!
If you decide to turn right on to Schubert Rd and continue cycling the 100K route after 12 noon you will have 55K to cycle on the 100K route. There are two significant 5K hill climbs on the remaining 55K. One 5K hill at 80K averages 6%-7% grade. You will not make it back to Blackburn Park in time either for Lunch (Lunch ends at 3 p.m.) or for the Cyclists Celebration (2:20 p.m. to 2:40 p.m.). It’s your choice. Either way please enjoy your bike ride!
