This year’s “75K Ride” offers two options:
67.8K – a more challenging ride: South of Silver Creek turn right up the Yankee Flats Road’s north end hill (a 4.5K climb – average 4% grade with sections that kick up to 6% – 8% for about 700M distance. Cycling off the top of the climb your reward is 10K of rolling descent with great views to the south east. At the south – bottom end of Yankee Flats Rd. turn right at the mail boxes on Salmon River Road. Watch for cyclists and cars approaching this junction on your left. The Aid Station/Porta Biffy is about 600M south of this junction with the turn-around just north of Highway 97. Total elevation gain on this 67.8K route is 600M.
68.5K – an easier ride: Enjoy an out and back ride on the beautiful rolling Salmon River Road. At approx. 32.7K (Heywood-Armstrong Road enters on left here) watch for cyclists on your right merging onto Salmon River Rd. from the Yankee Flats Rd. An Station/Porta Biffy is about 600M south of this junction with the half way turn-around just north of Highway 97.Total elevation gain on this 68.5K route is 555M with a maximum grade of 6% for less than 100M distance.
Why the route change? Morgan Bridge’s east side approach was washed away by high water on the Salmon River in early May. The bridge, located near Glenemma, is on the Ride’s usual 100K and 75K routes. Bridge repairs will be started and completed sometime this fall.
